Drone Compliance Specialist and Drone Industry Advisor

In order to further develop the South African and African Drone Economy, the Categorization model is being proposed to augment existing regulations.

The Categorization model as proposed by JARUS, EASA and more recently ICAO – sets out a risk-based framework for the safe operation of civil (commercial and hobbyist) drones thereby enabling large-scale adoption of drones in a safe, secure and sustainable manner.

It defines three categories of civil drone operations with the necessary safety risk mitigation measures in place for each risk category:
– Open / Low Risk Category
– Specific / Medium Risk Category
– Certified / High Risk Category.

Her presentation will include:
– an overview of the Categorization model by touching on key concepts and giving practical examples;
– describe the identified constraints to adoption and implementation from a South African perspective;
– discuss the digital building blocks required to implement the Categorization model.
