Yuval Caspi was the first but no longer the only woman on the SkyWatch.AI team
My name is Yuval Caspi and I am currently the Marketing and Community Manager at SkyWatch.AI Drone Insurance. I grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana and pursued a bachelor’s degree in International Communications at Indiana University. Upon graduation, I decided to fulfill a lifelong dream of living in Israel. I was eager to have the ultimate abroad experience and immerse myself in a new culture and language. When I arrived in Tel Aviv, I was immediately blown away by the amount of tech companies in the area, many of which are responsible for transforming the drone industry.
How did you get started in the drone industry?
Joining the team at SkyWatch.AI was my initial introduction into the drone industry. My previous experience in marketing and tech was at Sears Holdings Corporation and therefore while I always admired drones and their capabilities, I was not well-educated about the industry itself. Luckily for me, this changed quickly. Communicating with professional drone pilots about their insurance needs has been the ultimate learning experience. It has allowed me to expose myself to many different drone missions and jobs, and I have spent numerous hours speaking directly with SkyWatch.AI drone pilots. Today, I have a strong grasp on what it means to be a commercial drone pilot, without being one myself. I am constantly working with our pilots, learning about their businesses (their challenges and needs), and helping them get their insurance needs sorted out as quickly as possible so that they can get their job done. Continuous communication with drone pilots is essential when it comes to improving the SkyWatch.AI app and making it beneficial for the drone industry. It has been an honor working alongside so many talented drone pilots and learning about their wide array of drone businesses.
Tell us about your organization and your role there.
SkyWatch.AI provides on-demand drone insurance by the hour, month, and year. SkyWatch.AI is transformative not only for the drone industry, but also in the insurance industry. Our company epitomizes the startup mentality, and our office environment enables us to work fast, while remaining innovative and flexible. Each team member here influences the company’s day to day and contributes to the development of the product and service. The best part is that our technology activates insurance instantaneously and gives pilots complete control over their policy management. Within my role at SkyWatch.AI, I hold many responsibilities. I communicate with our pilots daily, regarding support needs and marketing material. My efforts are directed at building a strong network of safe, educated, and insured drone pilots. Additionally, I have developed a strong pilot support and success management program which allows us to stay engaged with our pilot’s support needs and provide the most efficient service. While I take pride in SkyWatch.AI’s technology, I also want our pilots to know that there is a dedicated team behind their requests. I want pilots to focus on getting their jobs done, without having insurance be one of their worries or challenges. The most important part of our company is our pilots, and without our community, we would not be able to provide such advanced insurance solutions. Throughout my experience at SkyWatch.AI, I have also decided to become a licensed insurance broker. I am currently studying to get my license so that I can both further advise pilots on their insurance coverages, and also advance SkyWatch.AI into other insurance verticals.
What do you like most about being in the UAV industry?
What I like most is that this industry is constantly changing and developing. There is always more to learn, and more room to develop which makes everyday on the job all the more exciting. It really goes without saying that the possibilities are endless when it comes to working with drones.
Being a point of contact, and support agent for drone professionals and pilots is definitely another favorite aspect of my role in this industry. By helping pilots with their insurance requirements, I have had the privilege of seeing drones used for good throughout the nation. I am constantly amazed by the work being done and the different projects taken on by SkyWatch.AI Pilots. This year alone, I have helped issue insurance for pilots using drones in the real estate industry, search and rescue operations, Hollywood, construction, wedding photography, and many more.
What excites you most about the potential for women in the industry?
When I started working at SkyWatch.AI, I was the first woman to join the team. I was initially shocked by the gender gap, but truly respected the company for taking the next steps to hire women. Now, one year later, SkyWatch.AI has taken this one step further! Within two quarters, five women have been hired – all to different influential roles. From coding, to product management and business development, it’s remarkable to see women working to develop the SkyWatch.AI business model and technological features. Of course, having women in leadership roles is remarkable, but what makes me most excited is that we have all become contributing members of the drone industry. At SkyWatch.AI, women have a fair and equal chance of truly contributing, innovating, and succeeding on a professional level.
Drones are becoming more and more popular and beneficial to companies across the globe so it’s important that women stay involved in this innovation. I love watching the increasing number of women pilots joining our community and showing them that our team is dedicated to promoting women in the industry motivates me every day on the job.
