Michelle Duquette is the Portfolio Manager for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) safety and operations at The MITRE Corporation’s Center for Advanced Aviation System Development—the federally funded research and development center sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration. She is responsible for partnering with the offices across FAA to establish a comprehensive approach to integrating UAS into the National Airspace System (NAS). 

In this role, she provides NAS systems and drone technical expertise and leverages unmanned industry and cross-government relationships to inform FAA unmanned strategic enterprise planning as well as Public-Private partnership efforts, including policy and infrastructure decisions.

Michelle’s work across MITRE sponsors, including the DoD, DHS, and FAA, has helped to forge lasting partnerships across diverse stakeholders to evolve public operator benefits for using UAS to support both domestic training and national security missions. Her impressive track record of successful outcomes underscores her ability to work across government to bring the right expertise to bear and give trusted advice and objective insights on unmanned standards and regulatory guidance

Michelle is also a NAS operations subject matter expert, whose work has included onsite support for dispatch concept and requirements development to the USAF Air Mobility Command Tanker Airlift Control Center at Scott AFB and facilitating successful sortie execution through NAS commercial airspace through the application of civil Collaborative Decision Making.

Michelle has significant commercial aviation experience and deep knowledge of the NAS, Traffic Flow Management processes and procedures combined with an operational and technical understanding of UAS performance, NAS operational practices, capabilities, automation, and evolution. She is a collaborative leader, skilled at facilitating cross-domain teams and building relationships. In addition, she is a creative problem-solver who is recognized for her skills in strategic planning and thought leadership in the UAS arena. She has an extensive training development background and serves as a mentor to early career staff.

Prior to her role at MITRE, Michelle was a Global Operations Control Specialist for Federal Express and the Senior Dispatch Coordinator for CommuAir dba US Air Express.

In her free time, Michelle is a military spouse, mom to two Australian shepherds, a woodworking hobbyist, has supported many charity events on her motorcycle in safety roles, and loves outdoor adventuring of all kinds.
