Desiree Ekstein is also known in the industry as Drone Diva Desi. Ms. Ekstein is an Adjunct Instructor of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), at TCI MiraCosta College, in Carlsbad, California. Desi has over six years of remote piloting experience, is an FAA Certified 107 Remote Pilot in Command (RPIC) and Canadian Advance Remote Pilot.


She is AUVSI TOP certification category level 3 Remote Pilot and instructor status. She is also a Lead Representative FAASTeam DronePro in San Diego, California, and a UAS Safety Advisor for Women and Drones. Desi has logged UAS commercial flight hours in a wide variety of industrial applications and provides educational instruction for the Remote Pilot Part 107 exam. She also teaches at the Elementary Science Institute (EIS) for “Girls Take Flight” as part of a young female STEM program and for On The Go

As an experienced commercial remote pilot, companies have hired Desi to perform data collection for aerial inspections of infrastructure, agriculture, and construction. She regularly provides documentation and data deliverables using software applications including DroneDepoly and Pix4D.

Desi is a highly sought-after public speaker and an international keynote speaker. She has been a guest speaker, presenter, and moderator for many UAS STEM/STEAM events including, Africa: Drones and Unmanned Aviation Conference, Women in Technology International, Kids Zone, and Commercial UAV Expo.
