‘Air Probe UAV’ was founded by Probyn ‘Probe’ Thompson, a veteran U.S. Air Force Pilot, to serve the emerging drone technology needs of businesses, Public Safety agencies (L.E., Fire, Disaster, Emergency), schools, STEM programs, educators, and institutions of higher learning. Probyn seeks to bring awareness of the profession of remote piloting and aviation to individuals and communities that historically have been under-represented in the aviation career field, by offering professional education and flight training. Air Probe UAV also provides commercial remote piloting aerial services to businesses and public agencies.
Probyn earned the ‘Senior Command Pilot’ rating from the US Air Force, served as a combat flight instructor, and upon retirement from the military worked in the Defense UAV Industry which included a tour in Afghanistan as drone aviation unit site lead. He holds a Masters in Aeronautical Science (MAS) degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, a Certificate in Emergency and Disaster Response from University of North Carolina (CH), and a BA from the University of Miami.
“It is important to bring diversity to the Aviation and UAS industry. My father was a member of the Tuskegee Airman program of WWII, which opened the door for African Americans to fly. During my active duty time in the military, except for one assignment, I was the only minority pilot, and there were no woman flying combat at the time. ‘Good people’ helped open the doors for me to fly, and it is now the responsibility of us to actively do the same for women. We must not only support total inclusiveness with words, but by our deeds, taking action, because it is the morally and ethically right thing to do.
Recently, Air Probe UAV taught a Public Safety class of twelve law Enforcement Officers to fly drones at a North Carolina Community College. We asked the Dean of the program to ask the Sheriff to please include in his selection and nomination, qualified female Deputies. To the Sheriff’s credit he did, and Deputy Maloney will be tremendous asset to their new program.”
“It is an honor to work with the organization ‘Women and Drones’ which is leading the way in gender diversity. I’m proud to be a member of this organization that will make a difference in the lives of many women, including my three granddaughters, all future pilots”, Probyn concluded with a smile.
