In the last article I spoke about Social Media and how your participation in Social Media can affect your ranking in Google, aka pull your drone company closer to the top when someone searches. As I said in that article, the use of Keywords throughout your Social Media posts and website content is essential! So, what are Keywords, how do they affect your ranking, and how do you figure out what Keywords you need to use?
Simply put, Keywords are the most actively used words people use to find companies who do what you do. The more you use those search words and the more places you use them, website/Facebook/LinkedIn/Google My Business, the higher your ranking will be and the easier it will be for others to find you!
The first step is to define possible keywords, words that define the drone “niche” or your “niche”! Think through what people would type in the Google search to find you, these are “seed” keywords.
One way to hone-in on your keywords is to see what keywords already send traffic to your competitors. Do you know who your competitors are? Take one of your initial keywords and search Google, see who ranks on the first page. That will find your competitors quickly! If none of the top-ranking website compare to yours then try searching with one of the relevant autosuggest queries. Another good way to pinpoint some of those words is to go to your competitor’s website and take note of some of the words that are repeatedly used throughout their website. Are those same words on yours? Could they be good Keywords?
Once you determine the best Keywords adapt your website to get the best results from Keyword searches. Choose the top 5, for instance, and make a page on your site for each of those 5 Keywords. Then, within each of those pages use verbiage that repeats those Keywords 3-5 times, without sounding like you are just repeating it to make a “quota”. Next make sure those same words are on each of your Social Media pages. As the “Google Bot” searches the web he will notice,
- Your website address (aka your company name)
- Facebook Business page
- LinkedIn Business page, and
- Google My Business page all have your Business Name AND those Keywords in the descriptions, and he connects them all together; bringing your business name closer to the top when those Keywords are searched.
There are some plugins that can be used on the backside of your website to help you optimize your Search Engine Optimization(SEO). Plugins such as YOAST and AIOSEO. They point out where you don’t have enough Keywords, what you need to improve, and where you need to add more. If you are using someone else to develop your website, make sure you have conversations about SEO and how they manage it on your website so it can be incorporated into your Social Media. SEO was originally about increasing search visibility for businesses that serve their communities face-to-face. Brick-and-mortar businesses with physical locations. More recently SEO has become necessary for those in the virtual business world as well, connecting people from around the world to businesses across the world.
Google My Business (GMB) is a key place to start in establishing your SEO. This includes everything from creating or claiming a business listing on GMB to ensure your business appears in a search on Google (a process known as location data or citation management). It also extends to managing online ratings and reviews, local-centric social media engagement, and beyond. While GMB is mostly used to find local establishments, as virtual business are on the rise it is becoming more and more necessary to find businesses around the world.
What could some of the Keywords to search and find your drone business, products, and services be? SEO can be exact-match keywords, partial-match keywords, phrases, relevant keywords, search by niche and brand. Here are some possible Keywords I found for the Drone Industry:
- Unmanned Aerial Vehicle
- Unmanned Aircraft System
- Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems
- Line of Sight
- Autonomous Flight
- Commercial Drones
- Aerial Photography
- Aerial Photos
- Drone Photography
- Real Estate Drone Photography
- Rgb Camera
- Ground Control Plant
- Near Infrared
